  • When playing a Premium Module for the first time Norton Personal Firewall will interrupt the authentication process to request that you either grant or deny access to the Internet for nwnmain.exe.

  • During the module authentication process Norton Personal Firewall will minimize Neverwinter Nights to the system tray and bring up the window above.

  • To authenticate the module successfully you will need to select the first option, which is: Always allow connections from this program on all ports. This will set the Internet application rule for this program, and after this initial configuration you won't be prompted again for this program unless it is modified by an update to the game.

  • To access the firewall configuration settings click the Norton Internet Security button found in the left pane under the Norton Internet Protection Center menu.
  • In the main window click on Personal Firewall and then Configure to begin configuring your Internet application access rules.

  • From this dialog click on the Programs tab.

  • In the event that Neverwinter Nights has been inadvertently blocked from the Internet it is a simple matter to change its permissions.
  • Programs the firewall is preventing from accessing the Internet will have the words "Block ALL" listed under their Internet Access column.
  • Select "Neverwinter Nights" under the Program column.

  • To change a program's permission select "Permit All" under the Internet Access menu.

  • Once the program has been properly configured its Internet Access column entry will change to "Permit All."
  • Repeat the above process for the Neverwinter Nights Updater, which will have the application name "NWN Update Program."

  • This screen shows us what Internet capable applications installed on your computer are allowed through your firewall.
  • The individual programs are listed under Manual Program Control along with their individual Internet Access permissions.
  • Neverwinter Nights needs Internet access to authenticate premium Neverwinter Nights modules purchased from the BioWare Store and to download game updates via the "NWN Update Program" ("nwupdate.exe").
  • If the required Neverwinter Nights executables "nwupdate.exe" and "nwmain.exe") are not listed under the Program column they will need to be added. Click on the Add... button to begin.

  • Navigate to your Neverwinter Nights installation directory and locate "nwmain.exe."
  • Click on it and then click the Open button.

  • Norton Internet Security will now bring up a Program Control dialog. Select "Permit" to grant Internet Access to "nwmain.exe."

  • "nwmain.exe" has now been added to the list of allowed Internet applications, and you will be returned to the main Internet Applications menu.
  • Repeat the above process for "nwupdate.exe."

  • When the two required executables have been correctly added, their Internet Access permissions should be displayed as "Permit All."
